Our Advent Series

This Christmas season our Advent sermon series is entitled THE GOOD NEWS IN JESUS’ GENEALOGY: What the Women Teach Us About the Gospel, from Matthew 1:1-17.

Matthew’s genealogy differs from that given by Luke, and in exploring the reason why, we will highlight his carefully constructed genealogy and in particular his inclusion of five women (Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, Uriah’s wife, and Mary) in the genealogy.
It is highly unusual to include women in genealogies, and in light of theclear structure of the genealogy in groups of 14, indicates that Matthew is in the genealogy already laying the groundwork for the message of salvation to be unfolded in his Gospel.

Why include these women?
What do they have to teach us about the coming Savior?

By examining each of these women and their role in the Biblical story, may your understanding of the coming of the Savior into our world be enriched, and your devotion to the Savior be increased. Our sermon schedule is as follows:

December 3, 10:45 a.m. TAMAR: Good News for the Sexually Abused
Sunday, December 10, 10:45 a.m. RAHAB: Good News for the Immoral and the Alien
